Charlotte and James had been friends since kindergarten. They had been dating since junior high school and Charlotte knew of James’ dreams. James had always dreamed of performing and now he had the chance to go see his friend Kendal Schmidt who was currently working on some music in Boston. After debating it for a long time, Charlotte convinced James to go for it. She knew things would get rough but she knew with every fiber of her being that in the end they’d be able to weather the storms that would cross their paths and that they’d come out stronger than ever. So the time came for James to leave for a while, to check things out in Boston.

His beaten up suit case was standing outside on the porch while he waited for his cab to arrive. He was standing in the doorway looking at Charlotte as if he was just about to walk away from the best thing in his life.

“char, baby, are you sure about this? I can easily stay in NY and try to make it out here. I don’t want to leave you behind. I wish you could come with me” said James and sighed

“ look, this is your dream. It’s an opportunity for you, maybe one in a million, I know things will get rough but as long as we are honest with each other and stay faithful we can make this work. I can come visit. It’s not the end of the world” she said swallowing hard in the hopes the tears wouldn’t fall

“God I love you woman, I don’t know what I did right to deserve you but I will never do wrong by you. I love you more than life itself and nothing makes sense without you. I hope you know that.”

He pulled her into a hug and kissed her one last time passionately while the cab pulled up on the curve. “I am going to miss you.” He whispered as he pulled away.

“Go show the world what I have seen since the first time I heard you sing, okay? And remember I’m your number one fan, always will be.

Winter was slowly getting to an end and James was in Boston trying to make it work with Kendal. He called Charlotte.

“hey beautiful, I miss you” said James

“hello handsome, I miss you too. How’s the song writing going”? asked Char

“well it’s going great. We have a few songs finished actually. I wish  you  could come down to Boston for the spring time. You could try to sell your books on the corner of the café I’m working at to support myself. Kendall has enough room if that’s what you worried about” he rambled

“Or what about going to Denver to see the snowfall? We’ll move up the mountains so far we can’t be found and throw I love you’s down the canyons and lie awake at night until they come back around? Can’t we go to Denver? Or we could live in LA, to live forever? We could live in a house that overlooks the ocean and there’s some stars that fell from the sky living up on the hill? “ he asked again dreamily

“Baby, you know that I’m working at this big publishing company and I’m about to make promotion any day now. Can’t you come home to me?” char asked sadly

 “It’s just that this drifter’s world goes round and round and I doubt that it’s ever gonna stop, living this fast paced life, but of all the dreams I’ve lost and found and all that I ain’t got, I need someone to cling to, someone I can sing to. If I could I’d pack my bags right now and come home but I can’t. ” he said with sadness in his voice

“you know that you’re making this REALLY hard on me right james? I’m here working my ass off to get some stability for the both of us while you chase your dreams, and ive never regretted letting you go because you are working towards a goal that’s going to make you the happiest person alive but don’t put this much on me, I need you here too” Char said getting slightly angry at him but more at herself.

In the meantime the doorbell rang. Char got up to open the door. She took her anger out on the door and yelled ‘what?” while turning away from the door. Then she heard this voice, this familiar voice saying “hey baby, I’m home for a while”
